Glass Workshops Spring 2014

We've run 2 Glass workshops this year and the work produced has been fabulous. Some of the attendees have been complete novices and some have attended previously. A few participants had previous experience making stained glass - so they could already cut glass which is the most difficult thing for some to master. It took me a week to fire everything in the kiln as many of the pieces had to be fired twice. Some pieces were quite large and although one deep bowl slumped "a little bit wonky" there were no firing disasters which was a great relief to me.

We have 2 more workshops this year in September - a 1 day and a 2 day. All the details are on our main Burlingham Hall website: http://www.burlinghamhall.co.uk/

Some of our recent participants have requested another workshop, so I've agreed one for them in October. There are a few places left on that workshop if that suits you better.

Here are some of the varied pieces made by students on our recent 2 day workshop. They were all very pleased with what they had achieved in just 2 days.

It's been far too long...

So much has happened. A new year to say the least...
But I'm back and I'll try to be more regular in my postings in 2014
Lots of wonderful things are going to happen this year:
The Yurt is getting a bit of a makeover, we have a new Book Arts Week in June (almost fully booked so you'll need to be quick), Chris has finished his "folly", we have some special events we're attending (more of that later), and we still have the old favorite workshops - Kiln Fused Glass and Felt Hat Making.
Full details of the 2014 workshops are on our website - so do take a look: www.burlinghamhall.co.uk
BOOK ARTS WEEK will take place 23rd - 29th June 2014: Victoria Hall is running a Decorated Paste Papers Workshop and a Paper Marbling Workshop, Mark Hearld is running a Collage Workshop and Tom Martin is showing how to Make a Case-Bound Book.
Chris' finished "Far Pavillion" - it's fabulous!
Somewhere to enjoy a nice glass of red methinks...

Complete Novice, Malcolm, made this fabulous fused glass plaque
on one of our Kiln Fused Glass Workshops last year.

Some pics from the latest Kiln Fused Glass Workshop

Unfortunately I didn't have time to take pictures of all the work produced on our last workshop, but here are a few of them. Some lovely things created by complete novices in just one day, with a lunch break too. They did very well and now seem "hooked". Many have pledged to return...
Next workshop is a 2 day one on Thursday 23rd & Friday 24th May.

One of the ladies who came on the bowl workshop came and made another one a few days ago. Fabulous results.

Kiln Fused Glass - Bowl Workshop February 2013

Our latest Kiln Fused Glass Bowl Workshop on February 1st 2013 was a great success. Here are some of the lovely bowls/dishes made. Some were photographed on my phone and they're not very good. The chicken looks brilliant in reality but photos not so good - it's a wonderful dish. The seascape one is fabulous too. Actually they were all wonderful - and each one unique!

They're coming back to make some more again soon. Lovely people, a great day and some fabulous results.

Made a lampshade today at the Makeplace in Norwich

Very pleased with my lampshade - made today at the MakePlace in Norwich.
Saw Aviva Leigh there too - she made a fabulous shade using a piece of her lovely woven textile. They all looked so professional. Fabulous to learn a new skill.
Cat is looking gorgeous today (sitting on Chris' lap - I think he's her "creature") and I've just downloaded pics of Xmas glass we took to shows (all now sold) and my latest Cardoon panel. Studio is so tidy I just had to take a picture. It won't stay like that for long...
